I remember when I moved into my first solo place after med school: I’d always had a love for interior design and home decor. But, when you’re given a clean slate to furnish for the first time, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the endless possibilities of blank walls and bare floors.

I didn't know where to start! So, I did what many of us do when searching for the answer to almost any question: turned to the internet! Instagram, in particular, was a wealth of inspiration.

Before embarking on any home decor project, knowing what you like is key. This is where Instagram really comes through; you discover your own unique design aesthetic, based on the types of images you're drawn to ‘like' and the accounts you're compelled to ‘follow.’

I learned early on that I'm a fan of mid-century modern, Scandinavian, boho, and minimalist decor.

Our living room is a blend of Scandinavian, MCM & minimalist design.

Click here for more on how we styled our living room and reclaimed our style after kids.

In this post, I’ll share ten of my favourite home decor Instagram accounts, and suggestions on how to get their looks.

Tanya, an interior stylist living in New Jersey with her husband and four kids, aptly describes her style as 'light and bright, nordic meets boho.'

She has a beautifully styled, playful home, furnished with unique pieces. Her feed is bursting with creative ideas you'll want to try in your own home. Like a swing in the dining room!

I've been a big fan of small space design ever since my first solo place, a 500-square-foot studio apartment. It takes a special kind of ingenuity to furnish and arrange a small space to maximize its function, without it looking cluttered and chaotic.

Crystal is the interior designer (and small space magician) responsible for this beautiful and very cleverly laid-out, 700-square-foot (one bedroom) apartment in Manhattan, which she shares with her husband and two kids!

If you think four people in 700 square feet is tight quarters, what about five in an RV trailer?! That's where Ashley and her family are living while they build their home in Ventura, California. I've never seen such a charming and functional RV! It's inspiring to see how they've transformed this space, replete with all of the thoughtful and decorative touches of home.

Brandi is the self-described 'Boho Electic Maximalist' behind this colorful Insta account. While I tend towards a minimalist aesthetic, I couldn't help but be drawn in by her feed.

Each lush little square is jam-packed with color, pattern and texture.

It's easy for things to look messy in maximalism, but Brandi is a master stylist, who weaves it all together artfully!
