WEEK 1

WEEK 2

Day 10: Catch Up

Today we're organizing the powder room!

If you haven't already, please subscribe for a free, printable 30-Day Spring Tidying Challenge schedule!

Below are my suggestions for how to declutter the powder room:

1. Empty the powder room, including all cabinets.

2. Clean. Sweep or vacuum and mop the floor. Spray clean the mirror, sink and toilet.

3. Decide what to keep here.

Your powder room doesn't need much to be functional. All you really require are: toilet paper, a waste basket, hand soap and a hand towel.

Our teeny-tiny powder room is a work in progress. It has the basics, but doesn't quite feel complete:

You might've noticed we're lacking a wall-mounted tp dispenser and a towel rack. That's because we've yet to find ones we like and have been making due without them. We're planning to add some decorative touches soon, so keep an eye out for that!

This is our tiny little trash bin. It took a while to find one that doesn't stick out like a sore thumb! Simple Human Trash Bin ($19.99, Amazon.com).

Chrome Toilet Paper Caddy ($17.99, Amazon.com).

If our spartan powder room's left you feeling uninspired, here are some powder rooms that don't lack in style:

4. Divide everything from the powder room into four groups/bins.

i) belongs in the powder room

ii) belongs elsewhere in the house

iii) fit to donate/sell used

iv) garbage/recycling

5. Return the things you've decided to keep in the powder room and organize neatly.

You may be starting to notice the underlying theme here: the less you hold on to, the easier it is to organize! I can tidy our entire powder room in under a minute!

6. Redistribute the items that belong elsewhere in the home. It's not uncommon for my son to leave toys and reading material in here...Or, at least my husband say's it's our son's...

7. Donate. Take the boxes designated as 'to sell/donate' and put them somewhere out of sight, but accessible (i.e. mudroom or basement). You'll continue to add to these each day for the rest of the month, with the casualties of each day's tidying task. At the end of the month, you can make a trip (or several) to your local donation bank and/or go on an online selling spree.

8. Dispose of and/or recycle items from the designated garbage/recycling bins.

That's your task for day 11! Join us tomorrow for day 12, when we'll target the living room!
