It's week five of the One Room Challenge! If you're just tuning in, I'm giving our family room a modern boho makeover, as a guest participant in the ORC.

With a week left, here's what the to-do list is looking like:

-̶ S̶h̶e̶l̶v̶i̶n̶g̶

- S̴̶̴t̴̶̴o̴̶̴r̴̶̴a̴̶̴g̴̶̴e̴̶̴

- Decorative Pieces (getting there!)

-̶ U̶p̶d̶a̶t̶e̶d̶ ̶w̶i̶n̶d̶o̶w̶ ̶d̶r̶e̶s̶s̶i̶n̶g̶s̶ ̶

-̶ A̶ ̶f̶r̶e̶s̶h̶ ̶c̶o̶a̶t̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶p̶a̶i̶n̶t̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶b̶r̶i̶g̶h̶t̶e̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶n̶g̶s̶ ̶u̶p̶ ̶

-̶ B̶u̶d̶g̶e̶t̶-̶f̶r̶i̶e̶n̶d̶l̶y̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶s̶u̶s̶t̶a̶i̶n̶a̶b̶l̶e̶ ̶o̶p̶t̶i̶o̶n̶s̶

-̶ The signature neatntiny.com minimalist-ish aesthetic!

The obligatory mood board pic to remind you of the vision for the room:

Today, I'll show you what I've been up to in the past week.

But, before we get to that...

I should tell you about our DIY electronics closet. While it was completed before the ORC started, it's an integral part of transforming this bedroom into a TV/family room.

We mounted the TV and Eric cut a hole in the drywall to pass the wires through to the closet behind it:

This allows us to keep all wires and TV-related electronics behind a literal closed door. One of the benefits of repurposing a bedroom into a media room!

Back to this week's progress.

Last week, I styled the shelves:

This week, it's couch styling time!

In keeping with the budget- and sustainability-friendly goals for this room, I used stuff we already had around the house. These pillows were part of our living room pillow rotation:

...with the exception of that gorgeous, mustard mud cloth pillow, generously provided by Thils and Lils (my fave mud cloth pillow shop!).

And, I may have splurged on this throw from Anthropologie:

It was too beautiful to pass up and the colors work so well with everything already in the room...

I also searched high and low for a Bird of Paradise for this corner. I've been wanting one for a while now. After killing a fiddle leaf fig last year (RIP Figgy!), there was a large plant void to fill in my heart and in this room! I was assured these are easier to care for. Only time will tell!

Our over-sized sectional takes up a lot of the limited space in this room (a consequence of transforming a bedroom into a family room). Separating the two sectional pieces visually breaks it up, so it doesn't look too overwhelming for the space. This also allows for easy access to the balcony sliding doors behind.

Another small-space adaptation: I chose a side table instead of a coffee table (this is the Taaj table from EQ3). I like it's modern silhouette and the subtle pop of blush!

I try not to go overboard with pillows or throws...or anything... Less is more!

Also, this week: I finished our DIY travel map. I've always loved the idea of displaying a travel map with push pins tracking our travels:

World Travel Map Pin Board ($109, Amazon.com).

Eric's dad maps his trips on a regular, old paper map tacked on a piece of foam board; does the trick and is a lot more economical.

So, I got this vintage-looking world map from a local shop, as well as a piece foam board:

I had Eric cut the board to size with an X-ACTO knife (if you don't already know this about me, when I attempt to cut anything, it looks like the work of my left-handed four-year-old).

I used double sided tape along the back of the map to fasten it to the foam board:

Ta-da! Our very own push pin travel map:

Pinning all the cities you've visited is the fun part! It's like a trip down memory lane and it gives you some perspective on the parts of the world you still need to see.

We should probably check out Africa or Australia before heading to the Caribbean yet again.

Next week, I'll show you where we put this. Mostly because I haven't quite figured that out just yet...

Shop This Idea

Cavallini World Map Poster ($8.99, Amazon.com). This is the exact map I used...

...and these are the pins! Map Pins - 100 Pcs ($5.20, Amazon.com).

The room's not quite done, but Charlie's already enjoying it!

Stay tuned next week, when I'll style the area around the TV and find a spot for our DIY travel map! And, oh yeah, next week's the big reveal! Can't wait to see what everyone else has been up to!

Jasem's love for Patek Philippe, and other watches, as well, landed him a seat as a link jury member of the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de link Geneve in 2019, before the jury was widened to an "academy" in 2020. His candid thoughts on the world of Patek Philippe are always interesting, and we are thrilled to welcome Jasem Al Zeraei, aka the link man behind @Patekaholic, here on Talking Watches.

Back inside, we got to the nuts and bolts – or rather plates and screws – of mechanical watchmaking. link You can start to see most of the parts that go into these watches. One of the things we often take for granted are the screws that are necessary link to link hold parts together. If you think you understand how small these screws are, you still might be subscribed.
